Call for papers
First Announcement

We are pleased to announce that the Tenth Workshop on Cantonese (WOC-10) will be jointly organized by the Linguistic Society of Hong Kong and the Research Centre for Cantonese, Department of Chinese Language and Literature, the Chinese University of Hong Kong to be held at the Chinese University of Hong Kong on Saturday, November 13, 2010. The theme of this workshop is "New Horizons in Cantonese Grammar ". "Newness" in Cantonese study will be emphasized. Through reviewing the approaches and methodologies proposed in the field in past ten years, we hope to foresee some new directions for Cantonese study in the next ten years, with a special focus on the following issues:

  • new discoveries in formal Cantonese syntax and semantics
  • new approaches to comparative study of Yue dialects
  • new directions for old Cantonese
  • new discoveries in Cantonese acquisition
  • new areas in Cantonese grammar to be explored

Abstracts are invited for 20-minute talks with at least 10 minutes for discussion. Language used at the Workshop can be Cantonese, English or Mandarin. Abstracts may be written in Chinese or English and should be limited to one A4 page with the name(s) of author(s), affiliation and e-mail address(es). Abstracts in DOC format should be sent to:
