Sze-Wing Tang's research interests lie primarily in natural language syntax
and parametric approaches to comparative grammar with a special
focus on the syntax of Mandarin Chinese (Putonghua) and Cantonese,
syntactic differences among Chinese dialects, and syntactic
differences between Chinese and English.
Some specific topics that Sze-Wing is currently working on include:
- definiteness of nominals and nominalization in Chinese
dialects,
- the "discontinuous constructions" in Cantonese, and
- the syntax of the argument structure of Chinese.
